The brief
Canvas Memoirs is a growing business in canvas and fine art printing service. The company provides their service to regular customers who order small quantity of canvases to decorate their home, as well as professional ones who are photographers or re-sellers. Canvas Memoirs receives most orders via their website and wants to bring out better shopping experience through it. Our mission is to revamp their website to make their brand looks more modern and professional as well as improving the ordering flow so the user can clearly see the options (material, layout, size..) to customize their canvas.

UX Research

Method
We combine several researches including analysis of the old site (above image) in terms of its sitemap and content strategy. We go through some similar canvas ordering websites like CanvasPop, CanvasWorld… to gain more insights on the ordering flow.
Our next step is to list all the problems and suggested solutions as well as the new requirements and then prioritize them basing on the design/development effort and the product strategy.

Insight
Users do not have a lot of patience ordering online since they can choose other sellers, if the experience is not smooth enough, they will have second thought.
Take Away
The current site has a lot of experience issues: The bounce rate is too high and the customers usually drop off while ordering a canvas. There are also 2 separate sites for regular and pro customers which are confusing to the users. In terms of branding, the current design also makes the site look fraudulent and lower the chance of online ordering.
After hours working with our client, we’ve decided to merge both sites (for regular and professional customer) to one site. This will increase the chance to convert normal customer to pro-customer and also make the ordering flow more seamless and easier to manage all customer accounts when they register.

Technical & Art Direction
Technical approach
The core of the this product architecture is built from open-source OpenCart. The most challenge of this project is ability to let customers customize and design a unique canvas by mixing canvas, frames, materials and a huge of options as size, color, photo whilst still display correct pricing, delivery time to them. To do that, we integrate OpenCart with a smart Excel sheet for pricing formula and delivery time. We also integrate JS Report to generate customer invoice and purchase order which embeds a QR barcode to send to factory for production.
Art direction
The client loves to showcase the quality of the canvas and he wants the site to look fresh, lively and friendly to the user. Thus, we focus on showing a lot of images to display how the canvas will look like in real life. In every step of the ordering process, we incorporate images or illustrations to demonstrating what they’re getting to help them make decision faster and feel confident in their choice.
